The EMV Speech team won the State Speech Class B team championship in Mandan this past Saturday; additionally, a Humorous Duo individual state championship was won by Faith and Brooke Christensen.  26 EMV students competed in 31 entries; 14 of those entries moved to final rounds, and an additional 5 entries were recognized at awards with “superior speaker awards” for either breaking out of finals on a tie or achieving 1st place in a preliminary round. Receiving state recognition were:  Seniors – Michael Vavra Superior Medal Radio; Ryan Janish 4th Humorous Duo, Superior Medal Extemp; Megan Tichy – 4th Humorous Duo, 6th EPR; Madeleine Hill 4th Impromptu; Elizabeth Peterson 7th Serious Duo; Rachel Dominguez 7th Serious Duo; Alex Jorgensen 5th Storytelling, 7th Humorous Duo; Juniors – Faith Christensen 1st Humorous Duo, 4th Prose; William Egan 2nd Serious Duo, 2nd Dramatic; Twyla Gross 3rd Persuade; Superior Medal Inform; Sophomores – Trissa Gross Superior Medal Poetry; Alexa Zinke 7th Storytelling; Freshmen – Brooke Christensen 1st Humorous Duo; Superior Medal Humorous, Layla Anderson 7th Humorous; Zane Gruba 2nd Serious Duo; 8th Grader Lyssa Jorgensen – 7th Humorous Duo.

14 EMV students were recognized by the CSTAND organization by being named to the 2017 All-State Team for regular season excellence; CSTAND All-State award winners Elizabeth Peterson, Rachel Dominguez, Ryan Janish, Alex Jorgensen, Sami Schlecht, Madeleine Hill, Twyla Gross, Laurana Lynds, Faith Christensen, William Egan, Trissa Gross, Nikki Peterson, Brooke Christensen, and Layla Anderson.
